My Portrait Of A Lady

To start with my 11th grade classes have started and its just 2 days that i have already started feeling the pressure. The Physics syllabus and the maths concepts are so much that I don't even know how i will study all this for  my papers. But my start ain't that bad for now cause i have been studying daily whatever has been taught in class. But it is a human nature that we start a work with perfection but when it reaches the end it becomes clumsy and untidy(At least that's the case of all my notebooks. The first few pages would be so damn neat but by the time you reach the middle , you will be able to see the REAL fate of my notebook). Still I have my hopes high that i will be able to cope up with the syllabus cause i have been understanding whatever has been taught in class. Also another problem at my shoulders is that my Responsibility burden is still no over... After being a prefect for 4 years in Middle School and 1 year as the Head Prefect I thought my responsibility works are all over but no; In class 11 I have been chosen as the Class Representative. I'll manage it but I just hope that it doesn't become an obstacle for me in 11th and 12th.

So today I was reading our first english chapter "The Portrait Of A Lady" which is about a grandmother who used to live with her grandson in a small village. She used to be the grandson's best friend and would accompany him to the school which was located near a temple. So as the grandson would be studying the Grandmother would be reading rituals in the temple and both of them would go back home together. Later the Grandson's parents call both of them to live with them in the city and they move. Here the grandmother is not able to accompany him to the school and as he grows she sees that she is not able to help him in the things he is being taught in school which makes her sad and lonely. Her only happy moment she has is during the evening when she feeds bread crumbs to sparrows who raid their veranda. Later he moves out for higher studies and she becomes more sad and depressed. When he comes back he sees that still she feeds the sparrows but the flock of sparrows had increased by a huge number. Later she becomes sick and later dies. They place her body in the veranda for some time covered and when they come back to take the corpse they see that the veranda is full of sparrows but they weren't chirping as usual. They were all sitting there beside the corpse in silence. The grandson's mother places some bread crumbs on the floor for them to eat but no one meets an eye. All sit there silently looking at the body. When the family takes the body for the funeral the sparrows fly away quietly. At the end of the story there was a question-
"Is there someone in your family who has been a big part of your life and you will never forget that person even if they pass away?"
Then I immediately remembered my grandmother who I usually call Ammachi(my mother's mother). She has been a big part of my young life.
I don't know when i saw her first but from the time I remember till now I don't know why but she just doesn't seem to age. She looks the same, with that happy little smile always on her face and a sewing needle in hand. You see she has a hobby of sewing cloths. Its not a much of an interesting hobby for at least my generation but by my experience I have seen that my grandmom's generations likes it.  Also I just love my grandmother's food. You can't believe how good she cooks. I die to eat the food she cooks when I go to Kerala.
I still remember when I went to Kerala alone and I stayed a night at my grandmom's place. I got Prawns for dinner because she knows I LOVE Prawns. She made me a Prawn curry, Prawn pickle, Prawn fry and roti. It was heavenly and the next day when I went to Thiruvananthapuram by train she made me around 8 roles filled with prawns for breakfast. I can't forget eating those delicious roles and people staring at me dreaming that they would be in my place eating those prawns.

My grandmom also has another interesting hobby. She participates in all the TV competitions like "TEXT -blah blah- to 000123 to get a free TV" etc. and she does win many things. Its fun to see her being so enthusiastic even at her age. She is so active and healthy and lives alone even at such an old age without feeling lonely and sad. The best thing I find about her is that she also likes animals like I do. She used to have these 2 dogs with her and when I was young I used to spend majority of my time playing with them. It was great; they were technically my first dogs but now I have Eevee. After they passed away my Grandmom got a Parrot. Even though she doesn't have any pets at present but I like my grandmom a lot. She is funny, caring,  loving and as i said earlier the best cook. She is beautiful and I would love to make a portrait of her but i just don't want that a portrait of my grandmother would ever hang on my house's wall and a garland would hang over it. Even though I just see my grandmother only once an year I do care about her and love her a lot.

If my grandmom is reading this right now i just want to say something- I LOVE YOU AMMACHI. :)
