Maths was a terror for everyone including me for years. But let me first start with the beginning...
For Niranjan, Maths was just reciting "1...2...3...4......" but then it grew to "2+3" and "3-2". That wasn't much of a problem for the topper of the first standard but later Maths transformed to nightmares. At night a voice would call - "Niranjan...It's me! MATHS! Did you forget? You have homework to do! 40 sums of multiplication and division. HAHAHA!" The poor little child had already started hating Maths. Numbers roaming around his head and the operators were making it even more confusing.
'Why can't maths be just 1,2,3 and 4.' he would think.
With all this he even saw his brother screaming at mom saying-
"I can't understand these Equations!! Neeru's life is so easy. Just studying multiplication and addition."
Now even stuff like "Equations" and "Algerba" started haunting him after listening to his brother's conversations with his friends.
Afters hours of hard work Niranjan at last got a hang of multiplication and division but what about the upcoming Linear Equations and the so called "Algebra". In 5th my text book lay in front of me, on top of the page written in bold -
"Linear Equations in 1 variable."
But soon Niranjan found out it wasn't as tough as my brother would say. So went Algebra but sadly the part of maths which he liked most 'Geometry' became the haunting ghost to him when he reached 6th. Coping with maths had become impossible. His friends and he together made up a full form of maths for fun which was actually true in his case.
M - Meri
A- Aathma
T - Tujhe
H - Hamesha
S - Sathaegi
"Meri Aathma Thujhe Hamesha Sathaegi" ("My soul will always torture you") was a very used phrase between his friends till another one spread -
M - Mentally
A - Affected
T - Teachers
H - Harassing
S - Students
(NOTE - Sorry to all Maths teachers if you took it personally.)
Maths was a subject which Niranjan would leave to be done at the last but some how he would always score marks. That didn't mean that the 11 year old liked maths like he liked Science. Then he started going for tutions and later institutions which did help him a bit. These places made him think about maths in a different way. Maths now felt good.
THE END
All these institutions did help me in many ways but i have to give a special thanks to a very special person. Even though i have only known him for roughly 3 - 4 months he has completely changed my way of thinking towards maths. His style of teaching made maths classes fun. He is the one and only Vipin Setia of A.V.T.E.
His jokes carves a smile on not only my face but also of the toughest faces in my batch. Everything about sir is amazing. Even after being a Maths genius it is fun to stay with sir and chat , even if it is about the rise of the price of vegetables which i hardly know cause sir has a joke to crack at any point of time. We do see a harsh side of sir some times but that would just be followed by a funny comment which brings back our mood. Not only that, he has taught us to think of maths in a different way. For me, sir has made me feel that it is a game where losing is not an option and playing smart is the only way to win it. He has taught me to think outside the box on every question.
From Quadrilaterals to Constructions he has tested our ways to look and experiment at questions.
Sir has not only taught me to not only think positively but also to think differently cause the world does not have space for the ordinary. To excell we have to be different from others, special in our own way so that we will only be one in the whole world. For me Vipin sir is like that, only one in the world cause i have not seen a maths teacher who not only teaches well and is funny bu teaches in a different way, different from others; a way in which any one can understand and apply maths. I know i can't judge a person perfectly after 3 months but what i know about sir has already enchanted me.
Sir, if you are reading this... I thank you a lot for what all you have done for me.
I just made this seconds ago -
M - Masth
A - And
T - Thagade
H - Hai
S - Sir
"Masth and Thagade Hai Sir" ("Sir is Awesome and Cool") .
Sir... May you change the life of others too.
I SALUTE YOU SIR!
